Monrovia, Liberia - More than one million days of work will be created for skilled and unskilled labourers from small communities in rural Liberia through a joint road rehabilitation initiative led by the Liberian Government with the support of the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), the World Bank, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). During last year’s dry season a similar initiative provided 700,000 working days. |

The Liberian Government and International partners have been urged to demonstrate their appreciation of the role of media in promoting democratic governance by seriously investing in media development. In a recent report released by the Partnership for Media and Conflict Prevention in West Africa, the group amongst several recommendations requested that the Government and its development partners ensure that media support is given a prominent place in the Poverty Reduction Strategy document. |
