Deputy United Nations Envoy in Liberia, Mr. Jordan Ryan, has challenged local government administrators in Liberia to translate their development programmes into better quality life for the people. Mr. Ryan was speaking in Sanniquellie, the provincial capital of Nimba County, at a retreat of local government officials, reviewing the development and decentralized activities of the UN’s County Support Teams (CSTs).

The United Nations Envoy in Liberia, Ms. Ellen Margrethe Løj, has pledged continued UN support to the Government of Liberia, especially in the fight against crime. “Cases of armed robbery, mob violence, and rape still remain high,” she observed. “And UNMIL has joined the Government and other partners to launch anti-crime and anti-rape campaigns across the country to deal with these challenges.”

With just few days following the launch of “Operation Thunderstorm” by the Liberian National Police in collaboration with the UN Police to get at armed robbers and other criminals in the country, the Governor of the Borough of New Kru Town, outside Monrovia, Richard S. N. Tobii, says his administration is in full support of the operation and will shortly embark on the dismantling of ghettoes in the community.
