The Regional Program Officer of the Foundation for International Dignity (FIND), Mr. Dixon Gblah, says Liberians must never resort to violence to resolve their differences. He said that we should make accountability and rule of law a pre-condition to realize our collective aspirations for peace, development and progress. Mr. Gblah made the statement when he served as guest speaker during program marking the 84th anniversary of the Township of Caldwell in Monsterrado County last weekend. Speaking on the theme, “Reconciliation of Collective Participation of Citizens for the Transformation and Development of the Township of Caldwell,” the human rights activist said development cannot be achieved in the midst of mismanagement of national resources. He urged Liberians to change their ways of doing things, adding, “We must foster and cultivate new attitudes and approaches to community development.” Mr. Gblah said that it is incumbent upon all of us to adopt a unified stance and coordinate efforts in a bid to reach a clear cut strategy of our collective good. He further said that a nation must express its determination to growth through development of its human and natural resources and close ranks for the development of the country. The FIND official also said that the masses of Liberia and the national leadership are determined to proceed forward towards a new dawn. According to him, it will be difficult for the nation to be transformed into a society where justice can be purchased by wealthy people while the indigents continue to swallow the bitter pills of humiliation and degradation. He questioned, “How can we transform the various communities in a society which lacks opportunities that can develop productive capacities of young people, but exposes them to violence and covetousness. He further explained that power is within the people to exert every effort and energies to put aside differences to challenge those who are holding the citizens’ hostage in abject poverty through the mismanagement of the nation’s natural resources.
