| Chinese Contributes To Malaria Control Programs In Liberia |

The Chinese Embassy accredited near Monrovia has contributed to Malaria control programs in the country by donating several medical equipment and established the China/Liberia malaria control center at the John F. Kennedy medical center. Speaking to reporters Tuesday at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Monrovia, Acting Program Manager of National Malaria Control Program, Tolbert Nyenswah said there are experts from China doing research in Liberian on the control of Malaria. He said the experts will also teach Liberians the technical detail on the prevention and control of Malaria in China. He said the group started to impart knowledge into some Liberians regarding the prevention of Malaria by organizing a workshop to help in this process. Mr Nyenswah noted that the first phase of the training laboratory technicians covered various hospitals, including, Catholic Hospital, John F. Kennedy Hospital, and from local health centers around the country. He said since the inception of the Malaria Center at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, the Chinese had donated several computers, Microscopes and Machines that are needed to diagnose Malaria properly. The Acting Program Manager of NMCP said the second phase of the capacity building from the Chinese government is to educate Health Ministry’s partners that are involved in malaria control and prevention at the community level on how China eradicated Malaria in some of it provinces He said the Chinese also produced malaria control drugs and have become the choice for the prevention and control of Malaria in most of the Malaria epidermis countries. Several Liberians were awarded certificates of participation at the capacity building workshop organized by the Chinese government. Meanwhile, the Acting Chief Medical Officer of Liberia Dr. Moses Pewu is urging all Liberians to use Mosquito nets as another means of preventing Malaria.
