Nathaniel William Poised To Win River-Gee By-Election Leads Commany Wesseh Slightly

Nathaniel William of the opposition Destiny Party has taken a slight lead over his rival Commany Wesseh of the ruling Unity Party in the February 24th River Gee by-election.
Nathaniel Williams leads his rival by 47 votes according to provisional result released by NEC yesterday.
Announcing the provisional results released by NEC Nathaniel Williams is in the lead with 50.4% representing 2911 votes while Commany Wesseh has a vote of 2,864 which represent 49.6%.
NEC chairman James Framoyan told a news conference that the results cover 48 of the 58 polling places across the county. He told reporters that another provisional result will be announced today.
The NEC chairman expressed appreciation to accredited observers, representatives of the two political parties, international partners, and the media for enhancing the transparency of the River Gee senatorial by-election Run-off by observing the process.
He said representatives from the two political parties were present at the polling places as counting went on. Final results of the by-election are expected Friday.
Nathaniel Williams and Liberia’s Ambassador appointed to the United Nations Commany Wesseh went into run-off after they obtained higher votes in the first round of the by-election on February 10th.
Mr. Williams led his major rivals with a total vote of 2,079 (32.2 %) while Mr. Wesseh followed with a total vote of 1,528 (23.7%).
The River Gee by-election is the result of the death of former senator Isaac Johnson.
Meanwhile latest report unverified by NEC reaching this paper last evening claimed that Nathaniel Williams has won the election after counting was done at all polling centers in the county.
According to the report Mr. Williams got 52.8% while Mr. Wesseh followed with 47.3%.
