| Firestone Liberia Awards Several Students For Academic Excellence |

The Education Department of Firestone Liberia has awarded several students enrolled within the Firestone Liberia School System for their exceptional academic performance during the second semester of 2008/2009 academic year. The colorful ceremony took place on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Harbel Field House. The two hundred and forty-five (245) honorees were categorized into President and Managing Director, Manager and Superintendent Lists. According to the Education Department, out of the total number of 245 students, nine students received the President and Managing Director Awards; while the rest totaling two hundred and thirty-six (236) were recipients of the Manager and Superintendent Awards. Presenting the Superintendent Awards to the deserving Students, the President of the Firestone Liberia Staff Association, Mr. Railey Jallah, told the students that the awards and recognitions they received from Management was based on their exceptional academic performance rather than favoritism, saying “while your friends were watching football games in the video clubs or loitering around, you were busy with your lessons.” He then thanked the Management of Firestone Liberia for the level of educational encouragement to the dependents of its employees. Mr. Jallah called on both parents and teachers to continually collaborate for the academic well being of the children. Presenting the Manager Awards was Ms. Wadei Powell, General Services Manager of Firestone Liberia. She congratulated the students for their hard work which earned them the honors and recognitions. Also presenting awards at the program was the Administrative Manager of Firestone Liberia, Mrs. Aumuo Abdallah-Keshen. In her presentation of the President and Managing Director Awards, she commended the school administrators and teachers for a job well done in preparing the students for a better future. Mrs. Keshen congratulated the honorees adding “it takes dedication, commitment and passion for one to receive an academic award”. In remarks, the President of the Firestone Agricultural Workers Union of Liberia (FAWUL), Mr. Austin S. Natee, thanked the Management of Firestone Liberia for the level of social services it is providing for its employees and their dependents, especially in the area of education. Among the honorees, students Maybel Sackie, Isaac Yarkpawolo and Joe Atto were named as the first, second and third highest scorers with accumulated averages of 98%, 97.5% and 97.4% respectively. The honorees were earlier presented pens and copybooks by the company. A sumptuous lunch later climaxed the honoring program hosted under the auspices of the Education Department. The well-attended program was graced by representatives of the company, the honorees from various schools within the Firestone School System, parents and well wishers.
