Plan Liberia Trains Over 150 Children -- On Child Rights Radio Programs
Published on September 29, 2009Email To Friend    Print Version

By: Jerome Toe
Plan Liberia has embarked upon the training of several Liberian Children in the area of Child rights Media Club drama productions.
Making the disclosure over the weekend in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, Plan Liberia Media Coordinator Naomi Cruisor Walker said the organization is interested in helping children improve their lives through access to education.
Mrs. Walker averred that Plan Liberia is currently undertaking the program for children as a means of raising awareness on various rights of children. Many parents are not aware of the abuse of their children and even fewer children understand their own rights. This leaves children vulnerable to having their rights violated.
According to Mrs. Walker, Plan Liberia has so far recruited over 150 Liberian Children in four(4) of Liberia counties including Montserrado, Grand Cape Mount, Lofa, and Bomi Counties to train them about their rights, such as their right to education, to not be forced into labor or into sex.
By the time these trainings finish, Liberian Children’s talents will be developed through the radio , drama and other activities of the children program, Walker explained. Soon, she added, their parents will get to know that their children have potentials and their rights must be respected.
The Plan Liberia Media Coordinator further disclosed that Plan will also provide quality education, health care, and livelihood for children. Along with support for the children, Plan Liberia will also provide access to microfinance for the parents of the children involved in order to help them gain economic empowerment.
