Conduct Speedy Trial in Deputy Speaker, Police Saga
Published on July 14, 2010Email To Friend    Print Version

The culture of violence that was cultivated by Liberians during the years of civil unrest has come close to becoming a way of life for many Liberians.

The reason for which perpetrators of violence advanced violence on ordinary citizens of the country were many. These include the desire of politicians to exert political powers for selfish gains.

But, the resurfacing of violence at the level of the national legislature which is so much need of peace raises lots of concerns as to the direction the country is taking.

The recent Deputy Speaker-police saga which left a police office seriously wounded signals a very bad situation where the youths will be enticed to see violence as a way forward

The negative impacts of the behaviors of some of our Lawmakers on the lives of ordinary citizens have led to the negative and random behaviors of most of our youths.

The alleged involvement of the Deputy Speaker of the 52nd National legislature in a clash with personnel of the Liberia National Police raises lot of concerns about the level of violence in the country.
Without passing judgment, we wish to call on the government to thoroughly investigate the Deputy Speaker-Police saga to serve as a precedence that no one is above the law.
