It is now several months since street lights on major streets in Monrovia and its environs disappeared. The poles have become practical “white elephants.”
Major streets in Monrovia are now practically dark as a result of the unexplained absence of street lights installed during the first phase of the Emergency Electrification Project. .
The conspicuous disappearance of the lights have created serious problems for residents in Gurley, Center, UN Drive and other streets that are criminal prone.
In essence, the rate at which criminals have been using the absence of the lights to harass peaceful citizens is very alarming. Certain parts of Carey, Gurley, Center and other streets are now impassable as a result of criminal activities.
To curtail this, we are calling on the Government, through the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to visit the project and solve the problem.
The Corporation should give serious consideration to the issue and ensure that defective installations are repaired.
