| NEC Commends Liberians for Voters' Turnout |

By Marcus Zoleh The National Election Commission (NEC) has commended the people of Liberia for showing up in their numbers to register during the voters' Registration exercise that ended on February 12, 2011. At a press briefing Friday, NEC Co-Chair, Cllr. Elizabeth J. Nelson said “Liberians should pat themselves on the back for this milestone achievement which was manned and presided over by NEC with support from the government of Liberia and international partners.” She said the Commission has started erecting structures that would enhance and nurture a solid pedestal for electoral administration and conduct in Liberia, which is germane to the overall process of institutionalizing democracy. “The construction of a central warehouse and 19 others in the counties, which was fully financed by taxpayers' money is an achievement, which all well meaning Liberians should note, and at least, give words of encouragement to their fellow compatriots at the NEC who are doing their best to leave an indelible footprint on the landscape of this nation,” Madam Nelson noted. At the same time, NEC has disclosed that out of the a total 1,694,186 forms it received, about 1,359,513 forms have been processed and archived Meanwhile, the exhibition of the provisional voters' registration roll (PRR) will begin on April 7 and end on April 11, 2011. During this period, NRC says, 1,780 centers will display the names of persons who registered from January 10- February 12, 2011 and were issued voter's card. In a related development, the NEC is gearing up to jumpstart activities leading to the conduct of the 2011 National Referendum which will be held on August 23, 2011. The Commission has already concluded the promulgation of the guidelines and regulations and is preparing to publish same soon.
