The Liberia Crusaders for Peace (LCP) with support from Population Services International (PSI) and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has completed a ten day massive promotion, distribution and awareness campaign on the use of the “All Rock Star Condoms” in five of Liberia's fifteen counties. Teams of LCP outreach mobilizers and animators equipped with promotional materials and PSI-Liberia paraphernalia stormed rural cities in Montserrado, Grand Cape Mount, Grand Bassa, Nimba and Grand Gedeh Counties attracting an overall estimated population of thirty-five thousand people from these rural cities and their catchment communities. The campaign began on the 12th of March through the 26th 2011. The Rock Star Condom is a youth user friendly condom supplied by PSI-Liberia to support the Government of Liberia to strengthen the mode of prevention for HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STI). Liberia has a predominant youthful population which is believed to be more susceptible to HIV/AIDS and STI. Addressing a crowd of young people at the formal launch of the campaign in Monrovia, the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist at Liberia's Health Ministry, Dr. Eisa Hamouda expressed satisfaction over the huge turn at the start of the campaign and cautioned young people attending the campaign to take advantage of the availability of Rock Star Condoms and practice safe sex. In a separate message to the youth, the executive Director of LCP, Ambassador Juli Endee also called on young people to be mindful of the rapid spread of the AIDS virus; and should stop at nothing to protect themselves against the virus. “Unprotected sex is the main way to catch HIV, use condoms every time to protect yourselves”, Ambassador Endee told an enthusiastic crowd at the Sports Commission on Broad Street, Monrovia. Founded in May 1994, the Liberia Crusaders for Peace is a national multidiscipline agency engaged in health promotion, peace building, advocacy for women and children, outreach and capacity building.
