Political Parties Listing Swells To Twenty-Four

The National Elections Commission (NEC) has officially certificated the Citizens Unification Party (CUP) to operate as a full-fledged political party in Liberia.
Speaking Wednesday at programs marking the certification of CUP at the St. Throng Church in Sinkor, the Chairman of the NEC, Mr. James Fromayan said the party has meet all requirements under the NEC guidelines to operate as a political party in Liberia.
The chairman added that the certification of CUP has brought the number of registered political parties to twenty-four, with three additional parties expected to be certificated upon the completion of requirements.
For his part, the political leader of the Citizen Unification Party, (CUP), Dr. James Sawalla Guseh said the certification of his party is a victory fight against corruption in Liberia.
He said the party was founded to change the direction of the country. He added that his party will put the country interest above personal interest and vowed to prosecute any member of his administration who engages in corruption.
According to Dr. Guseh, “CUP is committed to providing equal opportunity to all citizens of the county.” He said upon his ascendency to the presidency of the country, his government will dispence equal justice to all citizens including the disable and other vulnerable groups.
Meanwhile, a group calling itself “Friends of Guseh” has petitioned Dr. Guseh to contest this year's general and presidential elections scheduled for October.
In its petition statement, the group said “We the Friends of Guseh from the fifteen political sub-divisions of Liberia, under the banner of good governance, infrastructure development, social justice, human capacity building, gender equality, refined policies leading to economic security to ease suffering, the development of human potential through programs to include unemployment, insurance, civil rights laws, minimum wage laws, old age pension, health insurance, rights of people with disability, and aid to education; see you, Prof. Dr. James SAWALLA Guseh as the person with the political will-power to represent the Liberian people and therefore support you as our presidential candidate to contest the October 2011 General and Presidential Elections.”
“We, the Friends of Guseh, have meticulously followed your track record, achievements
numerous contributions to Liberia to include; Your endless and tireless humanitarian services in promulgating sound economic policies for Liberia; your unquestionable leadership as an administrator, educator, a renowned and credible professor and political economist, development consultant in modeling the lives of youths and citizens of Liberia
Providing countless number of educational partnerships with state-owned University of Liberia and Cuttington University now leading to faculty development, cultural exchange scholarship for Liberian students to study abroad” amongst other as some of the reason for petition Dr. Guseh to Contest the presidency of Liberia.
