Gborkeh The David Gueh Memorial UMC on GSA Road in Paynesville was the scene of fighting and other forms of immoral activities on Sunday February 25, 2007 when normal church worship service was abruptly halted by gruff entering into the church’s premises by several personnel of the Liberia National Police upon the alleged order of one Rev. Cooper Monjolo. At the end of the episode, one female worshipper who made an attempt to enter the church edifice in spite of tight security deployed in the premises by the LNP due to the confusion was handcuffed but later released.

FOR SOME TIME now, the issue of gender, by which stress of women as priority in national development has gradually gained currency amongst other issues along with men on the same pedestal. For the Liberian scenario, there is already a full level ministerial agency created to address gender issues. The Ministry of Gender and Development, which has the catalytic role of empowering women and children, against the myriad social hurdles so that they ultimately play vital roles in the reconstruction and eventual development of the nation, has barely been in existence for the last ten years, and now we have a female leadership in Liberia.
